The Elizabeth Valley Volunteer Bushfire Brigade welcomes members of the community who are interested in contributing to the protection of their local area.
Our brigade is made up entirely of volunteers who dedicate their time to supporting bushfire response, community safety and emergency preparedness across the Elizabeth Valley and surrounding rural areas.
Volunteers come from a wide range of backgrounds and bring valuable skills, knowledge and experience to the brigade. Whether you are interested in operational firefighting or supporting the brigade in other ways, there are opportunities for everyone to contribute.
All new members receive training and support through Bushfires NT to ensure they can safely participate in brigade activities.
Operational members are trained volunteer firefighters who respond to bushfire incidents and other emergency situations when requested.
These members participate in brigade training and may be called upon to assist with:
Bushfire suppression and containment
Hazard reduction and controlled burns
Property protection during fire incidents
Fireground operations and support
Deployment to assist other regions when requested
Operational members undertake training to develop the skills required to safely work on the fireground. This training includes fire behaviour, the use of firefighting equipment, safety procedures and teamwork during incidents.
Operational members are provided with appropriate personal protective equipment and are expected to maintain a reasonable level of physical capability to safely perform firefighting duties.
Support members play an important role in assisting the brigade without being directly involved in firefighting operations.
These members help ensure the brigade runs effectively by supporting activities such as:
Brigade administration and record keeping
Community engagement and public events
Logistics and equipment support
Assisting with training days and brigade activities
Supporting incident operations in non-firefighting roles
Support members are vital to the overall success of the brigade and contribute significantly to the brigade’s ability to operate effectively.
Training is an important part of being a volunteer firefighter.
Operational members participate in regular training activities which may include:
Bushfire suppression techniques
Fireground safety and situational awareness
Operation of firefighting appliances and equipment
Radio communications and incident procedures
First aid and emergency response skills
Training sessions are conducted regularly and help ensure that members remain prepared and confident when responding to incidents.
New members are supported throughout their training and are guided by experienced brigade members and Bushfires NT trainers.
Members are encouraged to participate in brigade activities when they are available.
Participation may include:
Attending training sessions
Responding to incidents when available
Assisting with brigade maintenance activities
Participating in community engagement events
The brigade understands that volunteers have work, family and other commitments, and members contribute as their availability allows.
